So, we'll see what happens. This is a short post as I am off to New York and won't be back until the weekend. Answers to comments: Janet, Roger has had some sort of late life personality change and is reading classics like it's going out of style. Suggestions beyond Hardy and Trollope would be welcome. He's on Trollope's Palliser novels now (the political ones for the non-Trollope reader); we watched the great old BBC series from those books in the weeks before he left. It's interesting how similar the problems of actual politics were in England in the 19th century when compared to the US in the 21st--the cost of running for office, the influence of the press. The talented young upstart in the books is Irish.
Abu, why on earth should I know the name of a Penn friend if (a) he's changed it for professional use and (b) I never met him and (c) there were no names on the video?
The picture is of Roger eating lunch in the Old Saybrook train station on his way to Ghana. It was an uneventful trip for him, a nerve-wracking one for me because the organization for which he is traveling called me late Sunday to say he had not reached his hotel. We had a very uncomfortable night until about 4 AM, when Roger himself called and said "I hear someone in the family is missing". It was great to hear his voice. The confusion, for the interested, had to do with the hotel's registration system.
More on politics in a few days; I am thinking about an essay on why I support Obama even though I've met Hillary several times and greatly admire her.
