According to Google, is today, at 1:08 AM. I'm not quite sure why the "shortest day" has such an exact time but there you are; from here on it it will start getting better.We are having the kind of winter weather that reminds me why there are advantages to being in Africa, rather than Connecticut, in the winter. It's been cold--sometimes bitterly so, sometimes just regular cold. We've had snow, then "freezing rain", then a deep cold snap which produces an effect rather as if the snow had been coated in plastic. Walking to the mailbox is risky; I use a ski pole. A couple of small pictures are added for effect.
The news tells me that Bill Strauss, the man who started The Capital Steps has died. They were a great favorite of ours when I was last living in Washington; Theo and I used to go to their dinner theater quite regularly. To memorialize the occasion I have at least tried to link to a UTube video. If it doesn't work, the site administrator (aka Theo) is likely to fix it.
Tomorrow we leave for Denver and are much looking forward to it. The one hitch is a plane change in Chicago--a city for which a winter storm warning has been posted. But both Providence, where we will start, and Denver look fine so are chances of getting through (and having our suitcases join us) are pretty good. I find myself a good bit more gloomy about travel in my old age than I was a few years back--perhaps I just need to get out and about more.

Hope you got to Denver without difficulty and that your bags arrived with you. We had a tight connection in Amsterdam and our bags didn't make it. I agree with you about the diminishing joy of travel by air - but I'm not sure it's age related. Happy Christmas from Janet, visiting in Seattle.
