We were in town for the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, a fun week of movies, stand up and tributes that I've managed to make it to for 6 years now. We had a fantastic time, got to meet up with some friends and managed to see a few good shows. Two movies that I really enjoyed were Waitress, and I'm Reed Fish. Waitress is a beautifully filmed movie about a woman (Keri Russell) who gets pregnant by the husband she hates and wants to leave. As her stress releif, she imagines new pie recipes, and when you leave this movie, you'll want to bake each and every one. I'm Reed Fish is a slightly untraditional coming of age story about a boy who is following in his father's footsteps as the voice of a small town radio station. It's a very sweet movie with some great music and a couple of good surprises along the way.
From the live end, I managed to catch about half of George Carlin's new set, which I enjoyed, as well as a great set by an up and coming comic I met named Hari Kondabolu. Hari had a great set that touches on some sensitive political issues in a way that leaves you laughing and thinking. On Saturday, the cast from Entourage came to town for a panel on the show which was very entertaining. It's interesting to see the cast talk about how much fun they're having - it's one TV show where it definitely comes through.
We also decided to take in some of the culinary delights of Aspen, starting with the classic J-Bar and finishing up on Sunday night with Matsuhisa. The Yellowtail JalapeƱo was absolutely incredible - by far one of the best dishes either of us had ever tasted. Since Tiger is not a shellfish eater, I was left to devour the live scallop myself. Also, absolutely out of this world good. And the best part is that we had one of the best meals ever sitting at the bar in our jeans. That's my kind of restaurant.
The photo above is of Tiger and me at the foot of Aspen Mountain (aka Ajax), near Wagner Park and the St. Regis Hotel . Although we didn't get our act together enough to ski, we did decide to take a gondola ride up to the top and enjoy the view for a little while before riding back down to the bottom.
